"Thoughts" was a nice return to the beginning of my painting journey. I made a similar piece a couple of years ago, and I wanted to try re-making it with the skill and experience I have now.

To show the improvement a couple of years can make, here is a side-by-side comparison of the original painting from 2013, and my new version from May 2018:

A pretty big difference, right?

It’s so encouraging to see the improvement. I have nowhere near as much time to practice painting as I would like, but I think this shows that just a little practice goes a long way.

This piece was made by starting with a strong pencil sketch, lightly filling in the lines with watercolour. At the moment I am using my 24 pan Pebeo watercolour set on A4 300 GSM Daler Rowney watercolour paper. I’ve enjoyed mixing up my usual colour scheme with the brighter yellows and greens. The paints are light and merge beautifully, but can also create really bold tones and contrasts. You can purchase them here.*
